Who this app is for

Dreamy is a parent-operated tool. The account holder is an adult, and the decisions the app asks for — which story to make next, which words or ideas to teach, what a child is ready for — are all made by that adult. Children are expected to read and listen alongside a grown-up, using the grown-up's account. We do not build features that encourage a child to use Dreamy independently.

What we collect

From you, the adult

• Your email address and sign-in details, handled by Google Firebase Authentication. If you sign in with Google, we receive your email address and display name — never your Google password.
• The stories you create, including the story idea you typed and the settings you chose.
• Optional voice recordings, if you choose to record a narration (see below).
• Basic usage records — how many stories you have made, so we can apply your plan's limits.

About a child

Deliberately, as little as possible. A child profile holds only:

• a nickname or first name that you choose — we ask you not to use a full legal name, and the form is built for short nicknames;
• an age band (for example 3–5), not a date of birth;
• language preferences for their stories;
• a record of which words and ideas have appeared in stories they have read, so the learning trail can show progress.

We do not collect a child's real name, birthday, address, phone number, email, photograph, location, or voice. There is no child login, so there are no child credentials. Everything above is attached to your adult account.

Voice recordings

Dreamy lets an adult record themselves narrating a story. This is parent narration — a parent, or another adult the child trusts, such as a grandparent, aunt, uncle, or adult sibling. A child's voice is never recorded, and the app has no feature that listens to a child.

Recordings are stored in a private location that has no public web address, and are played back through links that expire after an hour. You can delete a recording at any time from the story page.

One thing worth stating plainly: on plans that include accurate read-along highlighting, your recording is sent once to OpenAI to be transcribed, so we can line up the words on the page with your voice. That transcription returns word timings only. Your recording is not used to build a synthetic copy of your voice, and Dreamy does not offer voice cloning at all.

Who we share data with

We do not sell personal information, we do not share it with advertisers, and we run no third-party advertising or tracking. We use a small number of service providers to make the app work:

• OpenAI — writes the story text, generates the pictures, produces spoken narration, runs our safety checks, and (on plans with accurate read-along) transcribes a parent's recording. Content sent through OpenAI's API is not used to train their models by default.
• Google Cloud Platform — hosts the app and stores stories, images, and audio.
• Google Firebase — handles sign-in and account security.

How long we keep things

• Your stories and profiles — until you delete them, or until you close your account.
• Voice recordings — until you delete the recording or the story it belongs to.
• Stories made without an account — if you try Dreamy without signing up, the story is saved so it still works if you refresh the page or decide to sign up and keep it. These are deleted automatically after 30 days if no account claims them.

Your choices

• Delete a story — from the story page or your dashboard.
• Delete a child profile — from the children page. This removes the profile and its learning history.
• Delete your account — from your account page. Your account is scheduled for deletion and permanently removed after 30 days, along with your stories, child profiles, learning history, and any recordings. During those 30 days nothing changes and you can cancel at any time; after that, nothing can be recovered.
• Ask us anything — including for a copy of what we hold about you, or for us to delete it. Contact details are below.

Children's privacy

Dreamy is directed at parents and other adults, not at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from a child. Because we ask only for a nickname and an age band, and never for the identifying details a children's privacy law is concerned with, a child's personal information should never reach us in the ordinary use of the app.

If you believe a child has given us personal information — for example by typing a real full name into a story idea — contact us and we will delete it.

Sharing, and what stays private

Stories you make are private to your account unless you choose to share them. Two things never happen automatically:

• A story made without an account is never published. If you try Dreamy without signing up, that story cannot be added to our public library — not even by us. It stays on hold. If you sign up and claim it, it becomes yours and the normal choices apply.
• Your recorded voice is never shared just because the story was. Sharing a story and sharing the recording of you reading it are two separate choices, and the recording stays private unless you explicitly turn it on. You can change your mind at any time.

Safety checks

Every story idea is checked automatically before a story is written, and the finished story and its pictures are checked as well. Ideas that aren't right for a children's story are declined. These checks are always on.

Security

Data is stored on Google Cloud Platform and protected by their infrastructure security. Sign-in is handled by Firebase Authentication, so we never see or store your password. Voice recordings are kept in private storage with no public address. Access to production data is limited to the people who operate the service.

Changes

If we change how we handle your information, we will update this page and change the date at the top. If a change is significant, we will tell account holders directly.
